RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES
Colonial Beach, Virginia is a great family vacation destination!
Colonial Beach Virginia is a river and beach town, in Westmoreland County and the Northern Neck. It is bounded by the Potomac River, Monroe Bay and Monroe Creek (named after President Monroe), and is home to the second-largest beachfront in the state. This area is steep in history. The family of Alexander Graham Bell maintained a summer home here. George Washington was born just a few miles away, and the home and birthplace of James Monroe is just outside the city limits. Colonial Beach emerged as a bathing and fishing resort in the late 19th century known as the “Playground on the Potomac”. The beach is Virginia and the River is Maryland. The center of the Potomac River Oyster Wars raged from the late 19th century to the 1960’s. We are a small town on the water, our sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. When you plan your Wedding we hope you consider our town of Colonial Beach.
